    Deciding Managed or Unmanaged?

A friend of mine recently asked me if she should go managed or unmanaged and I flat out told her go managed because she didn't know which to choose.

They don't know they want unmanaged, they don't possess the skill set to harness the best qualities of a server. Am I right?

Can you elaborate on what I am right about? Are you more of a managed hosting advocate or an unmanaged hosting advocate?

There are two parts to Managed Hosting; the initial setup of all components, followed by the ongoing monitoring, updating and (with very few hosts) security auditing.
